I entered the first chapter and synopsis of Keeper by Surprise in a contest called PASIC's (Published Author's Special Interest Chapter) "Book of Your Heart" Contest. I entered Legacy of Lies in it last year and got some great reviews. This year, however, I was a little disappointed. The entries that scored high enough to final were read by a St. Martin's Press judge, and Keeper didn't make it. It did, however, garner some positive responses from the judges:
"The author, I feel, has a crisp style, characters were strong... I would like to read the book in full, since it did have promise."
"I would like to read the rest of this one."
