In time for Mother's Day, 2002, Publishamerica invited its authors to submit essays about their mothers, and specifically, what those special ladies did to encourage their children to write.  They created an anthology called Mothers of Writers, Volume I and II.  I'm proud to say my essay about my mom was included on page 42 of Volume II!  I hope you enjoy my essay about one of the most important people in my life, entitled My Biggest Fan.

Alert -- A Journal of Friendship

In my college days, I met a group of very special people.  We hung out together, studied together, ate, partied and laughed together.  And when we graduated, we all tried to stay in touch.  Nine people keeping in touch over the years, especially when we all settled in different states practically, became very tough.  Until one member of our group came up with a great idea.  He suggested that we name one person as editor, a position that rotates every year, and we create our own newsletter.  We each write an essay every quarter or so, describing an event, a challenge or just something that had been heavy on our minds, and submit it to the editor by a set deadline.  Then the editor would combine the entries and send it out to everyone.  The journal was never intended to replace individual communications between friends, but to enhance it.

I always looked forward to the arrival of each issue of Alert.  Come to think of it, I haven't seen one in a while.  Maybe it's my turn to be editor.

Hope you enjoy some of my Alert submissions.
