10/29/2005:  I will never tire of people saying they love my new book!  :)  Here's another review that I'm thrilled with:

4 Flames -- A Rare Find!

Penny meets Larry--for one night.   The first chapter is an excellent description of the race to the hospital. Will Penny and her girlfriend get there before the baby arrives? Will Penny tell Larry that he is a daddy? Will Penny really give up her baby for adoption?   Fast forward twenty-five years. Now the plot becomes very unusual.
Penny wants to find her daughter that she gave up for adoption so she sends out letters to thirty women who were born on the same day her daughter was.  Needless to say, lives begin to change. Also daddy gets a letter--which his wife opens. Surprise, honey!
Back to the past and what daddy did to start the legacy of lies.  Chapters alternate in time and Point Of View. Throw in a document snafu, a lie that compounds, misunderstandings, and come up with a brew of happy couples who are no longer happy.
I admire the plot and how each story strand of spaghetti intertwines with the others making it a most interesting dish. I read it straight through.  Very enjoyable!!

10/20/2005:  Pre-publication reviews of Legacy of Lies came back very positive!  I'm basking in the glow of these two:

Legacy of Lies is a story of one young woman’s decision; a decision that changes the lives of everyone around her.

Pregnant Penelope Livingston makes a decision to give her newborn baby up for adoption, which begins a quest for the soothing of heartache and a desire to love and be loved. Friendships are tested and forged as two young women look to their futures; futures filled with uncertainties but nevertheless filled with hope.

Regretting her rash though necessary decision in her youth, a more mature Penelope searches for what she’s lost. But she must contend with Larry O’Neill, the father of her daughter, as she discovers that he is the one who has sheltered and raised her daughter all these years and who is now wary and hesitant to trust the prodigal mother.

Legacy of Lies offers riveting combinations of suspense and hope, love and betrayal, and the anguish of fear and desire. Well written and offering well developed three-dimensional characterizations who have a way of tweaking emotions, this story of pain and regret offers the reader a fully developed and intriguing read, one that transforms despair into triumph.

Laurie Larsen weaves together a roller coaster family drama about adoption, guilt, and the search for the truth. Former teen mother Penelope Livingston embarks upon a search to find the daughter she put up for adoption twenty-five years before. After contacting several candidates from government records, Penelope finds two possibilities, but which woman is her daughter?  Each chapter introduces a new twist in Penelope's search, along with some new lies created by the adopted daughter's birth father to cover up the truth. This is a suspense-filled page-turner that reveals the spectrum of human emotions at work among the daughters, mothers, fathers, husbands and wives within this cross-section of families linked together by the birth of one baby girl so long ago.

7/25/2005:  A week ago I posted an excerpt for Legacy of Lies, and today, a reader from Middleburg, Florida sent me the following note:

"I just read an excerpt of Legacy of Lies.  I want to win this book.  Neat author who gives a good read."
-- Lou Harris, Middleburg, FL

Thanks, Lou!  You made my day!  And I hope you'll actually consider buying it if you don't win it!  :)

The Whiskey Creek editors who have been working with Legacy, and getting it ready for publication, have fallen in love with the book!!  (WOO HOO!)  Check out these comments (and accompanying swelled head of the author):

"I can tell you that you've done a WONDERFUL job of self-editing! One of the best jobs I've seen. ... Let me say that this is a great story!  What a wonderful read!  The twists and turns are awesome, and your readers will love it.  =)  Keep writing, you have the gift."
     -- Sue Vetter, Editor

"Let me tell you this: this is a FANTASTIC book!  I've gotten so caught up in the book, I can't wait to finish it. Wow, you are an excellent writer.  This book, LEGACY OF LIES, is so good, I think it should be optioned for a movie!  I don't know when I have enjoyed formatting and reading every word of a book as much as I'm enjoying this one.  I can just picture it on the big screen.  :)"
     -- Marsha Briscoe, Senior Editor

I entered the first chapter and synopsis of Legacy of Lies into a contest called "Book of Your Heart" contest, sponsored by the PASIC (Published Authors Special Interest Chapter) of Romance Writers of America.  Three booksellers judged it.  I especially liked one judge's comments, so Becky R. Ignatowicz, you've now become my most favorite bookseller in the whole world!

Score:  32 out of a possible 35

Comments:  The beginning of this book really reached out and grabbed me.  The plot exploded right off the bat and the characters were engaging.  Even after reading the synopsis, I would be interested in reading the rest of the story so I could fully experience the character development.

Here's what various editors who read Legacy of Lies, had to say:

Thank you very much for submitting your work.  Although we found it to have great merit and potential, at this time we do not have a place for it on our list.  We wish you the best of luck in finding it a home since you are obviously a very talented writer.

The book poses some intriguing conflicts and a fast paced style, I’m afraid the story line doesn’t suit our needs at this time.
