| For
Cassandra Sloan, life smells like roses:
her career is both financially successful and
intellectually stimulating, and her marriage is built upon a
love that grows stronger every day.
But at the happiest point in her life, things collapse
when her husband Danny is diagnosed with cancer.
His death shatters her universe, leaving Cass with doubt.
Is it possible to find a love like that, again?
Cass decides to spend some time in
retreat, to heal her heart and recover.
Slowly, she pulls herself back on track, ready once more
to face the world, and again, her world is turned upside down.
An unexpected telephone relationship grows between Cass
and Trevor, a friend of the family – a relationship that could
change her life, forever.
Author's notes:
What can I say? This was the
book that changed my life, and launched me into this new world
of a published author. Writing this book was a lifelong
dream of mine, and even if I never wrote another word, my dream
would be fulfilled. But it's like opening a box of mixed
chocolates -- you can't just stop with one. You have to
keep going and going -- sampling each new flavor because you may
just discover something that tops the first bite!
I loved Cass from the very
beginning. I wanted to portray her as smart, savvy and
confident. But even a woman in charge grieves over the
loss of her husband and best friend, and I thought how she
strives to pull the broken pieces of her life back together and
go on, could make a great story. Danny is the man that
every woman dreams about having in her life. And Trevor
has a touch more reality -- loving, but flawed.
I wrote the first draft of this book
in about 5 months, then revised it for about four more. I
submitted it to AmErica House in October of 1999 and got the
publishing contract in February. And the rest, as they
say, is history!
Tally:
Whispers was accepted by the first publisher I submitted it
to.
